Kordsa’s 2050 Net-Zero Emissions Targets Approved by SBTi
Kordsa’s long-term 2050 net-zero targets, aligned with the 1.5°C scenario, have been approved following the completion of verification processes by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Kordsa, a subsidiary of Sabancı Holding, continues to reinforce life responsibly through its sustainability performance. Prioritizing emission management in the fight against climate change, Kordsa has been making steady progress toward its 2030 targets. Now, the company has received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), one of the world’s most respected international standards, for its 2050 net-zero targets.
PIONEERING STEPS IN SUSTAINABILITY WITH NET-ZERO EMISSIONS GOALS
With its long-term 2050 targets now approved by SBTi, Kordsa will implement sustainability initiatives that consider the entire value chain. As a result of the efforts to be implemented in this direction, we will achieve a 90 percent reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, as well as in specified categories of Scope 3 emissions, by 2050 compared to baseline years.
Last year, Kordsa’s 2030 mid-term targets were also approved by SBTi. The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 46.2% from its 2019 baseline by 2030. For Scope 3 emissions, Kordsa aims to reduce emissions in designated categories by 25% from its 2021 baseline. As part of its mid-term 2030 Scope 3 goals, Kordsa also committed to ensuring that its suppliers will be aligned with science-based targets by 2027.
“CREATING SUSTAINABLE VALUE FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE”
In his remarks on the matter, Kordsa CEO İbrahim Özgür Yıldırım stated that Kordsa, just as all Sabancı Group companies, views sustainability as a necessity for the future of the planet and humanity, and added: “As a global company in advanced materials, we are reinforcing life responsibly across all the industries we serve for a sustainable future. Embracing Net-Zero targets is essential for a sustainable future. Committing to such ambitious goals allows us to extend our environmental actions throughout our supply chain and reinforces our culture of collaboration. In sustainable development, we aim to extend our impact across the entire ecosystem through our short-term and long-term emission reduction targets. Today, with SBTi’s approval of Kordsa’s long-term 2050 net-zero targets, our responsibility to develop sustainable solutions for all our stakeholders has increased. By achieving a 90% reduction in our emissions by 2050, we will continue to lead the way in sustainable development, in the advanced materials revolution and maintain the highest standards in this field.”
